A Short History
LongHorn Steakhouse opened its first location on Peachtree Street in Atlanta in August 1981, founded by George McKerrow Jr. along with George McKerrow Sr., Bill Norman and Bill Dukes, under the original name LongHorn Steaks Restaurant and Saloon. Business started slowly until a snowstorm hit Atlanta in January 1982 and stranded commuters. LongHorn stayed open with cheap drinks and steak specials, and word of mouth took off from there.
The chain expanded steadily through the Southeast and beyond. Darden Restaurants, the parent company of Olive Garden and The Capital Grille, acquired LongHorn in 2007. Today LongHorn runs close to 600 locations across the United States and Puerto Rico.
